It has been a whirlwind first week.   A Discovery of Witches has made many new friends, and people have been wonderfully supportive.  Thank you all!   It’s been a marvelous first week for A Discovery of Witches abroad as well; we have received word that it is set to debut on The Times (UK) Hardcover Fiction Bestseller List at #6 on this Sunday, February 13, 2011.

Thanks also to everyone who attended book signings this week at the University of Southern California, Stanford University, and Rakestraw Books.  It was lovely to see old friends and make new ones.  Next week, I’ll be reading and signing books at Octavia Books in New Orleans (2/14), Books & Books in Coral Gables, FL (2/15), Barnes & Noble on New York’s Upper East Side (2/16), Brookline Booksmith in Brookline, MA (2/17) and Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley, MA (2/18).  Click here for more details on these and other book tour events.

I’ll leave you with a few reviews from this past week:

“. . . But against all odds, A Discovery of Witches becomes increasingly charming as it goes along. There’s a fine story here. . .[and] Harkness tucks in bright plot twists. . . . It’s a shrewdly written romp and a satisfying snow-day read for those of us who heartily enjoyed the likes of Anne Rice and Marion Zimmer Bradley. By the book’s rousing end, I didn’t even miss the cackling. In fact, I was impatient for the sequel.” –Neda Ulaby, NPR Book Blog, MonkeySee, 2/9/2011

“. . . a wonderfully imaginative grown-up fantasy with all the magic of Harry Potter or Twilight. . . An irresistible tale of wizardry, science and forbidden love, Discovery will leave you longing for the sequel. . . . A first novel that casts a singular spell.” –Lisa Kay Greissinger, People Pick, People Magazine, February 21, 2011

“Harkness’ sure hand when it comes to star-crossed love and chilling action sequences in striking locales makes for an enchanting debut. The best news of all: it’s the first in a trilogy.” –Parade Picks, Parade Magazine, February 6, 2011

Happy weekend to you all.  I hope everyone has a chance to curl up with a good book!
